Location:
Kirra Hill, Gold Coast

Summary:
City of Gold Coast engaged 8LA to design an improved lookout precinct at the top of Kirra Hill. Affording views over the iconic Kirra surf break, northern and southern Gold Coast beaches and the hinterland, the design utilises existing topography and maximises outlook opportunities close to the edge of the steep hillside. Facilities include a large picnic shelter, barbecue, drink bubbler, hot water tap, Pandanus shade trees, lawn viewing mound, gardens and seating.
The shelter design references the gull-wing roof designs prevalent in original Gold Coast beach shacks, and concrete breeze blocks incorporated into bespoke seating pay further homage to 1950’s design in a contemporary style. The precinct is illuminated with pole top, bollard and LED strip lights recessed into the seating.
