A holistic approach to managing and embellishing the important beachfront resource in the city.

8LA undertook a planning study that identified opportunities for long-term placemaking enhancements at a number of Gold Coast beach locations: Currumbin Alley, Currumbin, Tugun, Kirra, Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay. The project was directed by the Coastal Planning team, City Assets Branch of the Council of the City of Gold Coast (the City).
The brief recognised that the City would need to adopt a holistic approach to managing this important asset. In order to achieve this, the City is seeking to develop several long-term placemaking plans to deliver a world-class beach experience for our residents and visitors. The design process included extensive internal stakeholder liaison to capture environmental and social factors considered important to the community user groups, asset owners and service providers. The project also analysed learnings from similar projects to identify the most suitable upgrades for long-term and holistic public space improvement.
