Location:
Main Beach, Gold Coast

Summary:
Cable Park is a small local park that is significant to Australia’s telecommunications history. The park was the crossing point of the Pacific Telegraph Cable and contains the heritage-listed Cable Hut.
The city of Gold Coast commissioned 8LA to develop a design to improve the site’s amenity and increase visitation and user experience by showcasing the importance the site played in the history of telecommunications. This was achieved by simplifying the layout of the park, providing a path link through the centre of the park to new shaded sitting areas overlooking the Nerang River, and by incorporating a range of interactive and educational interpretive play elements celebrating the story of the Pacific Telegraph Cable ‘All Red Line’.
