Summary:
The aim of this study was to develop a vision for high-quality public open space within the catchment of the Stage One Light Rail Corridor, to meet the needs of the increased population and maximise network opportunities.
GIS was used as a tool to consider all available spaces in the corridor study area as part of a network of open space in the city. The study identifies opportunities for open space at a broad level and establishes five key masterplan strategies for:
– Physical open space
– Innovative open space
– Natural open space
– Social open space
– Private open space.
Part 3 of the study developed strategies and actions under these themes and applied them spatially across the study area as part of a master plan. This included examples of how these strategies could be applied at a local scale and suggested refinement of mapping that will follow at a later date. The study is intended to form the basis for more detailed reviews in Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.
