Who we are
We are passionate Landscape Architects interested in urban design and ecological interfaces, community engagement and ecological sustainability. Our diverse backgrounds and experiences provide an eclectic combination of ideas and approaches.
The Team:

Director – Gerard McCormick
Ged co-founded 8LA Landscape Architecture in 2019 and has 30 years of experience in government, large and small private consultancies. Gerard’s design philosophy is based around the site, its character and its context. He has sat on and chaired numerous Advisory Boards and Reference Groups.
Ged has a passion for surfing, classic cars and bikes, active travel, the community and public art.

Victor Ferreira – Senior Landscape Architect
Victor is passionate about design and strives to implement sustainable practices to achieve high-quality outcomes in all projects. As both an Architect and Landscape Architect, he is particularly interested in the relationships between indoor and outdoor spaces and how they can achieve engaging and successful designs. A guy from Rio de Janeiro who fell in love with the Gold Coast and its lifestyle.

Chris Moore – Senior Landscape Architect
Chris has over 20 years of experience in the field of landscape architecture throughout Queensland and internationally.
His designs strive to merge the Australian natural form with modern landscape design. He has a passion for coastal landscapes and appreciates spending time with friends and family at secluded point breaks, beaches and golf courses.

Kirri Joyce – Landscape Architect
Kirri has a passion for connecting people to place, mainly to have a positive impact on mental health, which has led her to landscape architecture. Outside of work, she is a mother of three, enjoys photography and has run a hobby business of designing and creating fashion jewellery for over 10 years. She finds joy in exploring beaches, creeks, rainforests and cities with her children and adding to her ever growing collection of indoor plants.

Lucas Xu – Landscape Architect
Lucas Xu is a dynamic graduate landscape architect, graduating with a master’s in landscape architecture from RMIT University in 2022. His professional journey spans diverse landscapes in both Australian and Chinese contexts, where he has cultivated a profound expertise in landscape regeneration and graphic design. He enjoys his life on the Gold Coast with his partner and two cute cats. He is also a traveller and coffee guy and is always trying to make coffee with different tools and methods.

Luisina Perassi – Urban Designer
Luisina is an urban designer with a background in architecture, passionate about creating places where people and cities thrive. She works at the intersection of urban design, landscape and active transport, always with a people-first approach to building more equitable, sustainable communities. She’s also led youth engagement programs, giving young people a voice and the chance to share their ideas on how they want their cities to grow and evolve. Outside of work, she’s into digital illustration and slowly but surely improving her surfing skills.
What We Do
We deliver all phases of design from Concept through Documentation to Delivery. We service a broad range of valued clients and projects throughout South-east Queensland and Australia.
Our Vision
Our vision is to deliver high-quality design in the public and private realms, incorporating sustainable landscape design and ecological restoration approaches. We enjoy working collaboratively to derive site-responsive and contextually appropriate design solutions.
Our Philosophy

“Adaptive Cycle” is the theory established by Gunderson and Holling (2002) in their book “Panarchy”, where all systems are described as dynamic requiring regular phases of disturbance to remain stable. This theory is embraced by 8LA as it reflects the resilience and connectedness of our business and the ability to remain adaptive and respond as needs change.
